Q: Can Blinds Keep The Heat in?
A: A recent customer asked us: “Will blinds keep heat in?” Blinds are designed to keep the heat out in the summer and the heat in, in the winter. Duette® thermal blinds are especially known for their insulation properties, which mean these blinds keep the heat in in the winter, and the heat out in the summer, especially useful for conservatories. Do venetian blinds keep the heat in? Yes, but not as much as honeycomb thermal blind fabrics.
Q: Does closing window blinds keep the heat in or out?
A: Both! Blinds keep the heat out in the summer and in, in the winter months.
Or, put differently, should you keep blinds closed in summer? If you have been travelling abroad to warmer countries recently, you will have noticed that during the height of the midday sun, most homes have their blinds down and windows shut. This is because they are protecting their rooms from heat. So, to the question does keeping blinds closed keep heat out? We say yes. No matter what your blind is made of, having it closed will protect your interiors from external sun and heat.
Q: What are the best blinds to keep the heat out?
A: We have a wide range of window blinds to keep the heat out. Here our experts list their favourites:
- Duette® Thermal Blinds are popular with our customers because they are specifically designed for thermal regulation. The honeycomb construction means they are effective at trapping and reflecting heat, in other words, keeping the heat out. An extra plus? Their construction hides wires and cording holes within the fabric. Choose from translucent, opaque or full dim-out fabrics.
- Vision Blinds, also known as Zebra Blinds (because of their striped effect when partially open), offer the ultimate in light control from fully transparent to partial shading or fully opaque. The good news for heat? The partial shade setting blocks some sunlight and therefore heat seeping into your room, even when you still have a view.
- Pinoleum Blinds are a top choice for customers looking for a country or natural look. For heat issues we recommend adding our optional solar lining, which makes them effective in keeping the heat out and controlling temperature. So, in the summer months pinoleum blinds help keep your room cool and in the winter aid with heat retention.
- Roller blinds are effective for keeping heat out because they act as a barrier between the sunlight and the room. Because roller blinds are fixed above the window frame, you can open your door or window whilst your blind is lowered giving you airflow and shade to really keep your room cool. Our Bespoke Roller blinds are perfect for shading large areas of glazing with just one blind and are available with both semi-transparent and dim-out options in a range of colours.
Q: Will blackout blinds keep heat out?
A: Using dim-out or blackout blinds to keep heat out provides maximum shading and therefore reduces the heat in your room significantly. However, we would not recommend dim-outs for any ceiling blinds. We recommend instead Duette® thermal blinds for ceiling blinds. You can cool a room by installing blinds on any form of conservatory, lantern roof, or skylight to avoid reflecting a lot of heat into the room.
Q: What colour blinds keep the heat out?
A: Choosing the right colour and type of blind important when you are choosing blinds that keep the heat out. Try to choose light coloured blinds that will reflect the sunlight. Specific thermal designs, such as Duette® Thermal Blinds, are also recommended for heat reduction.
