DIY Blinds Vs. Made To Measure Blinds

Posted: 22 Feb 2021

Purchasing blinds for your home can be tricky, especially when there are many options available on the market. A popular choice for conservatory windows is the DIY solution called ‘Easi-Fit®’ or ‘Perfect Fit Blinds’.

Many online retailers sell this type of blind system, as a simple solution the customer themselves can fit with no need for drilling or screwing into the window. Although these blinds are great for those on a budget, they are not always the best product for conservatories.

Only suitable for side windows

Although DIY blinds are a cheap and easy solution for conservatories, online retailers have designed them to be suitable for only rectangular shaped windows.

Most conservatory roofs feature awkward shaped areas of glazing and can be very problematic to cover with DIY blinds. For this reason, we recommend an expert installer to fit bespoke blinds – made specifically for roof glazing. At Conservatory Blinds Ltd we offer our unique curved pure™ rail, which allows us to cover almost any shaped glazing with a neat finish.

Visible Wires & Clips

Unfortunately, a downfall of ordering DIY is there will be visible clips and wires running down each side of the window. While others use a large bulky frame, which will cover a large amount of glazing. We have constructed a system which uses concealed clips and discrete coloured wires which are almost invisible. This helps to improve the overall look of the blinds, perfect for stunning conservatories and folding doors.

Long Lasting Blinds

DIY blinds are a great product for those looking to cover their conservatory short-term. For example, in a rented property or first home. However, for those looking for a more durable window covering, DIY blinds are not likely to be the best product. Because of the cheaper mechanisms used, over time the blind will come away from the headrail, creating gaps as it cannot handle the weight of the blind.

At Conservatory Blinds Ltd we use hardware brackets and mechanisms that will last for years. Some of our customers still have our blinds that look like new after 20 years! Our customers often comment that our blinds aren’t the cheapest, but they certainly provide the best value for money. Our blinds are great for those looking for a more durable and robust window covering.

Custom Rails

Similarly, DIY blinds rails are only available in a basic white colour. While this is fine for those with white UPVC conservatories; a white rail can look odd when paired with grey or timber-framed glazing.

To create an integrated appearance, we have 12 rail colours as standard, with the option of customising the rails with any colour paint for an extra special touch. This includes colours such as anthracite grey and black.
